RE: advice to secure a television?

I used the TV grips that Dick_B speaks of. I did this after the TV in the Master B/R went through the sliding mirror door and was forced to admit to my wife that she was right.. regardless of how "tight" of a squeeze it was to get in.. it apparently came out real easy.. Since I've had no problems.. they are however very difficult to apply. I find that my hands are too big to fasten them where they need to be fastened.. At least in the restricted space I was working in.

RE: Built a deck!!!!!!

Nice work! Is there anything you can do about securing the awning so no one bumps there head on the arm?(I think we've all done that at some point in time). Maybe stake down one side in some manner without it being too off?

RE: portable generators running out of gas while using

Just be sure the generator, or it's exhaust exit is far away from your rig to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. This is likely the BEST advice so far. All other equiptment can be replaced. Make sure you have the generator well away from the RV and a good working CO2 detector. I had mine go off once when my Genny was close the the rear slide and I was at the site next door. Gasses were getting in somehow. Lucky I heard it and was able to correct the situation otherwise I may have lost my 3 kids. Please learn from my close call. Happy Camping

RE: portable generators running out of gas while using

I would think it would be as harmfull as any power outage. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

RE: Super Singles?

I can't recall the exact reason for running them as I used to know. Perhaps it was a lower cost but if I remember correctly the weight limit doesn't have to be effected. You will normally see this configuration on drop axles and very common on 5 tonne trucks such as dump trucks and flat beds

RE: RV Barbeque Propane Adapters?

Sorry, I don't think that will work for you. I spent many of hours questioning and searching. Those Quick connects are low preasure as they fall after the trailers regulator and I've been told many times that it's not enough preasure to open the regulator on a tabletop stove or BBQ. The only sollution I've been provided was to "cut in" before the trailers regulator and create my own quick connect OR find yourself a BBQ that doesn't have a regulator or one that you're able to bypass without blowing yourself up. I decided to just get myself a 10lb propane tank, 2 hoses and a T valve. When I set up I hook up both the stove and BBQ to the tank and I'm good. I tried to just get the part and test it for myself but the guy at the propane store got pretty upset after explaining it to me multiple times and claims others have tried and failed. If it works for you let me know.

RE: I am a believer now! Don't put weight on the bumper!

We are so new to this that we are yet to take our first trip with our new-to-us 2001 Fleetwood Mallard fifth wheel. I have been reading every word of every thread in this forum trying to get educated, and I have a question about this one. Are y'all talking about the bumper at the back of the rig where the sewer hose is stored? Our dealer sold us a spare tire holder that is 'bumper mounted'. I assumed that we would mount it to that bumper. Not so? And, if not, where do we put the spare tire without using up valuable storage space? My trailer at the back has a sticker which tells you how much weight I can put on the bumper and at what distance. I have a spare tire on my bumper as it's the way it came but I wouldn't add anything else to it. If my unit wasn't in gettign serviced I'd share the numbers. I do recall it being pretty low.

RE: Super Glide Question

"Slip Plate" is a graphite based 'paint' or dry lubricant. Comes in a spray can or brush-on. You can order direct if you Google 'Slip Plate' Also check with your 'farmers supply' (if you have one close by) Usually runs around $13/can(spray) and well worth it Oh, Okay.. I just so happen to have some graphite spray. Thanks

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

Just out of curiosity.. anyone know how much fuel is burnt while fighting a war? What was the price and rate of the rise of fuel before the attacks on 9/11 vs now? I have a feeling that more fuel is burnt in one day by a jet than you or I would burn in 10 years. Where would like to fight this war? In your own back yard? Personally I feel that if we don't fight over there it will be here before you can turn around. I agree, I want no fight here however I'm sure with the cold weather and the snow here at the moment they would have given up long ago ;-) . I am not flamming the war or where it takes place and have a great deal of respect for the men and woman that are over there doing what has been asked of them. The debate over that event and it's validity would be beyond the scope of this forum. I'm just wondering if anyone has done the math or research to see if there is exidence that one effected the other. I would imagine that it would for sure due to the regions where the fighting is going on and the resources on every level that are required to run that war machine. Just a question if anyone knows.. (Now I'll go read that link that was posted)

RE: I am a believer now! Don't put weight on the bumper!

Most people don't realize the weight of the bikes and the amount the force that is subjected to the bumper when you bounce down the road. A couple of bikes can weigh a hundred pounds pretty easily and a hundred pounds suspended a foot away from the bumper is a pretty big deal. I was at a frame shop one day and listened to the guy behind the desk argue with a customer about this. My impression was that he had this argument on a daily bassis so don't feel bad about making the mistake. It was apparent that many people do.

RE: Super Glide Question

Can you flip the tubes to even the wear that may be caused when assembling it back together? I assume the wear on the top is much greater for obvious reasons and wondered if I could prolong the life if I flipped them?

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

I moved from Alberta, Canada recently so O&G is the bread and butter of that province. What used to rally bother me was going to the pumps and paying through the nose and every other orfis with the explanation that it's supply and demand, that the oil is expensive to refine and on and on. Then the next morning reading how the Oil giants are reporting record high returns and record profits. I'm no expert but if you ask me something doesn't add up. If the excuse is the cost to refine then why are their pockets fuller than ever before? The bottom line is.. You are willing to pay it and they have you over a barrel (No pun intended). We have become dependant on this commodity, they let us gorge on it and now they are going to make us pay. Unless someone can come up with a way that we don't need the oil it will continue. It also boggles my mind to see the prices jump so much in a single night. in the past it was a slow increase but now they don't hesitate to bump it large numbers. I find it sickening that I'd be really REALLY happy to pay .90/L Just out of curiosity.. anyone know how much fuel is burnt while fighting a war? What was the price and rate of the rise of fuel before the attacks on 9/11 vs now? I have a feeling that more fuel is burnt in one day by a jet than you or I would burn in 10 years.

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

I think it's my fault. Appears that ever since I bought that Dodge with the Cummins the price has done nothing but go up :-( The good news is that it's leased so perhaps if I've had enough and turn it in you should all see a decline

RE: backing into a campsite

1) Get a spotter, especially if you are not comfortable 2) Watch the spotter but often they do not consider the TV and where the front end is or going so watch that too 3) **MOST IMPORTANT** Get out and LOOK where you are want and where you CAN put the trailer remember to keep room for awning, slides and don't forget to look UP and see if anything is in the way. This should be a practice for even teh most senior or profesional drivers. I am very comfortable backing a trailer in, I used to drive truck and at times spend days just backing in trailers. When other RV'ers see you get out, take a minute to scope the site, move objects that are in the way they notice. I have had neighbors tell me that it "looked like I knew what I was doing" Being safe and cautious is the "profesional way". Keep that in mind.. practice, keep a cool and level head and be confident in your ability and you'll be fine.

RE: Bra for the fiver cap?

You know.. people are amazed when they watch me clean off the bugs with a wet bounce sheet. For me it's the easiest way.. no fuss no worry and very cheap.. when you get where you're going.. wet a sheet.. wipe it.. rinse it.. Done. Anything else would involve a whole lot of either Cost or effort. You'd have to either replace the disposable sollution over time or you'd have to wash the cover if it wasn't disposable so why bother? I am against anything that comes into contact with paint and can trap dirt or dust and vibrate\move. It tends to do more damage than it prevents.. My exp. and my 2 cents :-|

RE: Diesel Fuel Price

It does require less refining.. That is why I scratch my head every time I see Diesel more exp than gas.

I do tech support for a large Telecom company. I find that as you said, it's almost like it knows it's met it's match ;-)

RE: Camper vs. House Current

It's kinda funny.. My DW and I just bought a new house. We are so happy to be out of the city now and love that we can now park our trailer at home (New place has 11 acres). The funny part is, we took possesion of it just a few weeks ago. Shortly after (Before it snowed) I noticed an outlet on one of the trees a few yards in the bush. I guess they used them to run flood lights as it used to be a B&B?!?!. Anyhow. My wife luaghed when I told her that "I plugged the trailer into that tree over there!". She thought I was kidding!! She almost fell over when she realized I wasn't.. Too funny..
